1996 Biak earthquake
The 1996 Biak earthquake, or the 1996 Irian Jaya earthquake, occurred on February 17, 1996 at 14:59 local time (05:59 UTC) near the Biak Island, Indonesia. The earthquake had a magnitude of Mw 8.1. The run-up height of the generated tsunami reached 7 m.〔http://www.earth.northwestern.edu/people/emile/PDF/EAO118.pdf〕 108 people were reported dead.〔http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/significant/sig_1996.php〕 This earthquake was a thrust in a very oblique subduction zone.
